    During the first term of Thomas Jefferson’s presidency the United States gained the Louisiana purchase from France. The nation doubled in size.The land was owned by Spain. U.S needed New Orleans because access from MS river to the Gulf of Mexico and ATlantic. France sold all of the Louisiana to the U.S. for 15 million.

    Lewi and Clark complete trip
    After the Louisiana Purchase Treaty was made. Jefferson planed an exploration of the new purchased land. He asked Meriwether Lewis to lead the expedition throught the land. In may 1804 it started from near St. louis and they traveled up the Missouri river. They wanted to Discover information about, Geography, People, and Natural resources.

    between Texas and Mexico. Congress declared war and
    Soldiers fought. Americans captured Mexico
    City. Then Mexico signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.

    Texas fought a war to become independent from Mexico. That year the Mexican army attacked and defeated Texan soldiers at the Alamo. At fort in San Antonio. After the Texans lost at the Alamo, Texan troops under Sam Houston defeat the Mexican forces. They wanted independence.

    Mexico owned the land of Texas and when American settlers started to over populate the Mexicans. The American settlers rebeled and Texas won its indepenence and then became the 28th state to join the United State.

    Oregon Treaty was signed by the US and Britain to settle the border. The British Vancouver Island the land north of the 49th parallel. The United States gained Oregon as new territory.

    Mexico Ceded California because of Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Mexico did not think they where losing domthing that important but gold had been discovered at Sutter’s Mill in Coloma, California. Nine days before they signed the peace treaty.

    Gadsden Purchase
    The US paid Mexico an additional $10 million for the Gadsden Purchase. A strip of land along the southern edge of Arizona and New Mexico.
