  • America Declares War

    America declares war because of Britains grasp on trade with France, impressment of Americans on the seas and British support of tribes in the west. America feels as though their independence and freedom is challenged and lead by James Madison, goes to war.
  • Surrender of Detroit

    America invades Canada but forced to surrender back across the Detroit River into Detroit.
  • USS Constitution vs. HMS Guerriere

    Approximately 400 miles southeast of Halifax, Nova Scotia, the USS Constitution spotted the HMS Guerriere and battle ensued. The American side came out victorious with an increased morale.
  • Burning of York

    Americans took command of Lake Ontario, permitting them to raid York (Ontario) and burn Canada's capital city.
  • Put-In-Bay

    American forces seize control of Lake Erie through the work of Oliver Hazard Perry, making possible an invasion of Canada through Lake Erie.
  • Battle of the Thames

    William Henry Harrison lead the American side in battle, pushing his troops up the river Thames. This battle is notable for the death of Tecumseh and the destruction of his Native American Coalition he led
  • Battle of Horseshoe Bend

    Andrew Jackson leads an army in a battle against the Creeks, another native tribe whom Jackson had aroused and had been receiving weapons from Spain. America is victorious.
  • Battle of Chippawa

    Victory for Americans along the Niagra River against the British army
  • British Burn Washington DC

    British troops enter Washington and set fire to several buildings including the White House.
  • Battle of Plattsburg

    American forces repel another British invasion in the north, turning back the larger British naval and land forces, securing the northern border of the United States.
  • Battle at Fort McHenry

    Army at Fort McHenry prepared for British invasion and won a decisive battle in America's own soil. Star Spangled Banner was written by an American lawyer trying to free a prisoner on a British Ship who was forced to stay on the ship throughout the battle.
  • Hartford Convention

    Delegates from New England states met in Hartford to discuss their grievances. Moderates outnumbered the Federalists who planned for secession from America. Added 7 amendments to the Constitution to protect the Northeast from the growing influence of the South and West.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    Treaty between America and Britain. Americans gave up demand for British renounciation of impressment and for the cession of Canada to the US. British abandoned creation of Indian buffer state in the Northwest. British in debt and Americans realize that with Napoleon's defeat, the British won't interfere in France.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    British arrive in New Orleans prepared to advance up the Mississippi River but Jackson's army held their ground forcing the British to retreat.
  • Rush-Bagot Treaty

    Treaty following War of 1812 that provided mutual dmilitarization of the Great Lakes
