    It is an orbiter. The purpose of the mission was to orbit earth. It was the first successfully launched satellite by the United States. It carried a cosmic ray detector which led to the discovery of radiation belts around earth.

    A capsule that launched the first American into space. The astronaut's name is Alen Shepard. Its mission was to see how man survived in space.

    It was piloted by astronauts Virgil "Gus" Grissom and John Young. It was designed as a bridge between the Mercury and Apollo programs, to test equipment and mission procedures in Earth orbit and to train astronauts and ground crews for future Apollo missions. The gemini was a cone shaped capsule with space for two men.
