started working for an art dealer in the Hague

1869

at the age of 16 { painting: the iron mill in the hague 1882 }

took up painting in earnest

1880

after following his beloved brother theo's suggestion.
[ for a brief period Vincent took painting
lessons from Anton Mauve in Hague. ]

moved to paris with theo

1886

the brothers shared a house on monmartre.
- there he met the painters Edgar Degas, Camille Pissarro, Bernard, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Paul Gauguin.
- he discovered impressionism

van gogh's accident and his stay in the asylum

1888

having a nervous temperament, van gogh ended up cutting a portion of his own ear lobe off.
- he was sent to the asylum in Saint-Remy suffering with depression.
- while there, he painted some 150 paintings, one of which is ''starry night''.

vincent left the clinic and went to a psysician

1890

after leaving the asylum, vincent went to the physician Paul Gachet, in Auvers-sur-Oise near Paris, where he was closer to Theo, who had recently married.

his depression had aggravated and that's why it is believed that vincent shot himself in the chest, at the age of 37. he died two days later. - his last words were; ''the sadness will last forever''.
