  • George Washington becomes President

    George Washington was elected to be the first president.
  • The First Spinning Mill

    Samuel Slater brought over from England the plans for a spinning mill. This started the Industrial Revolution. This also made the need for slaves grow.
  • Cotton Gen

    Eli Whitney invented the first cotton gen. It made it easier to pull seeds out of cotton. This also made the need for slaves grow.
  • US capital moves to Washington DC

    Thomas Jefferson moves the capital to Washington DC. This little area does not count as any states so no state can have more power.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Thomas Jefferson more than doubled the size of the United States by making the LA Purchase for 11 million dollars.
  • Trains

    With the use of trains getting from one place to another on land became much quicker than on a horse.

    Lewis and Clark Expedition

    Lewis and Clark go on an adventure through the LA Purchase to find out what was all there. They were appointed by Thomas Jefferson. They also went to Oregon Country.
  • Steam Boat

    Steam boats were invented and they made getting around on the river easier. They weren't as fast as keel boats but they still helped travel the river.
  • Star Spangled Banner

    Francis Scott Key made the Star Spangled Banner which was later made into our national anthem.
  • MO Compromise

    Missouri becomes a slave state and Maine is a free state. Slavery was banned from anywhere in the LA purchase north of the 36* latitude line.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    The Monroe Doctrine was a document that said that no other countries could colonize in the America's. Made by James Monroe.
  • Trail of Tears

    Indians were forced to walk the trail of tear so white men could have more land to settle on. Many of them did not make it.

    In the time span of thirty years the population went from 12.9 million to 31.4 million. This was due to the the gold rush and immigrants.
  • Oregon Trail Founded

    The Oregon Trial was a trail that lead across the country to Oregon. Not many families or people could make the trip and died.

    The United States finally had complete control of the Oregon Country that they previously shared with Great Britain.

    California had a huge gold rush so many people moved there to find some. This made California's populations grow rapidly.
