  • Election Tie

    In the presidential Election, Aaron Burr, and Thomas Jefferson. To determine the president the House of Representatives voted between the two candidates. After 36 votes Thomas Jefferson was elected President.
  • Louisiana

    Thomas Jefferson allowed Lousiana to be purchased for the modern equivalent of $250 million.
  • Embargo Act

    Following an attack on the USS Chesapeake, Thomas Jefferson blocked foreign trade, ultimately hurting the US economy.

    The united states banned importing slaves from Africa yet slaver remained legal in the United States

    War of 1812

    In response to the British government attacking American ships and conscripting American sailors, the United States went to war with Britain. The Americans led by Andrew Jackson won the last battle of the war.
  • Missouri Compromise

    A compromise that would ban any state above the southern border of Missouri from entering the United States as a slave state, while allowing Missouri to join the United States as a slave state.

    Andrew Jackson had the popular vote, but to a tie in the Electoral College, John Quincy Adams was made president by the house of representatives.

    Nullification Crisis

    South Carolina determined it could veto and nullify federal law. South Carolina nullified the Tariff of 1828.mIn response Andrew Jackson got Congress to create the Force bill that allowed him to use the military to enforce the tariffs.
  • Indian Removal Act

    The act forced Natives to leave territories east of the Mississippi River.
  • The Liberator

    William Garrison created the Liberator a newspaper that supported the abolition of slavery and equal rights to African Americans.
  • Gag Rule

    A rule was put in place to block anti-slavery petitions from being discussed in the House of Representatives.
  • Panic of 1837

    After an economic downturn in 1836, people wanted to exchange banknotes for hard currency, however, the banks could not supply the demand and eventually stopped accepting banknotes. After the panic of 1837, the United States continued to have economic troubles until 1843.
  • Fugitive Slave Act of 1850

    The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 compelled people to return runaway slaves. It came with penalties for people in authority who did not enforce the act.

    After leaving the United States South Carolina attacked Fort Sumter. This started the Civil War.
  • Emancipation Proclomation

    The emancipation freed slaves, hurting Confederate moral and the southern economy.
  • Thirteenth Amendment

    The Thirteenth Amendment officially ended slavery in the united states amending the Constitution.
