Christopher Columbus
An Italian explorer sailing for Spain who believed that Asia (India) could be reached by sailing west from Europe. His first voyage was in 1492, wherein he discovered North America (Caribbean islands) and named it the West Indies. He will make four voyages to the new world without fully realizing what he had discovered. -

Middle Passage
Is when a forced voyage of enslaved Africans traveled across the Atlantic Ocean to the new world.It was a one leg triangular trade route that went from Europe to Africa.In 1518 many African people made a 21 to 90 day overcrowded voyage trips that were manned by Great Britain,Netherlands,Portugal,and France. -
Jamestown
Was the first settlement to be established on May 14, 1607. It is located near the present day of Williamsburg. The town gave England its first stronghold in the new world. -
Southern colonies
They stretch from Virginia to Florida and to the west coast of the Pacific Ocean.In the 1690s planters from the south produced corn,beef,lumber,Pork and rice. -
Plymouth
In September 1620 a group of hundred men and women set sail into the new world on a voyage called The Mayflower. In late December the Mayflower got to Plymouth where half of the settlements died. It then became the first colonial settlement for New England. -
New England Colonies
A group of puritans which later are called pilgrims who found Plymouth colony in 1620.Then ten years later the Massachusetts Bay Company sent a small group of puritans to establish another settlement. -
Massachusetts Bay Colony
Was settled in 1630 by a group of one thousand refugees.The colony obtained from king Carlos was the ability to trade and colonies. In the 1640 more than 20,000 settlements were in Massachusetts Bay Colony. -
The Middle Colonies
King Charles ll In 1664 gave the territory in between New England and Virginia. Most of the dutch people that were in the territory that king Charles gave stayed put with made New York the most diverse and prosperous colonies in the new world. -
Great Awakening
Was under the leadership of George Whitefield in 1720. The Great Awakening was also a reaction against the increases in secularization in society and was also against the principal churches in American society. -
French and Indian War
Britain declared war on France in 1756 and lasted to 1763 which was settled with Britain claiming Canada from France and Florida from Spain. The war started at Ohio river valley which brought conflict to Britain colonies. -
Industrial Revolution
The revolution began in Britain when people switch from hand made to machine made. The start of the revolution was attributed to a person named Samuel Slater. -
Stamp Act
In 1765 Britain tried to raise the taxation to all the colonies which they were taxed with using commercial and legal paper, newspaper, pamphlets, cards, and dice. In the summer in 1765 the Sons of liberty was formed which later opposed and destroyed the stamp act. -
Boston Massacre
Started on March 5, 1770 Britain made an act called the Townsend Act that angered the people in Massachusetts. They then boycotted and harassed the troops from Britain which ended up with the death of Christopher Seider on February 22. -
Boston tea party
In 1773 Britain taxed tea on the colonies intended to help aid the financially that Britain had. The tea was only to be delivered by the East India Company and only then they were also allowed to sell the tea to less than the usual amount the tea would cost. The result of the tea act was that the people in Boston had thrown 342 chests of tea into the ocean. -
Battle of Lexington/Concord
Started in 1775 which was the beginning of the American Revolution against Britain. It is unknown who was the one who fired the first shot that started the revolution. The resentian of America melted away from Lexington while Britain settled in Concord. -
American Revolutionary war
Was when America won Britain in 1775.The war lasted for over a decade which made France and Spain join the war. -
Declaration of Independence
Was when American colonies separated from Britain which was approved by the Continental congress in 1776. On the 4th of july was when the Declaration of Independence was adopted which is celebrated as a national holiday as Independence day. -
Article of Confederation
Were created in 1776 and accepted by congress in 1777.The article made it that congress had no power to request money or troops from any state. -
Valley Forge
n the year 1777 11,000 regulars settled in valley forge in the west of Schuylkill river which was led by George Washington. Valley Forge was considered to be a defensible one and strategic route which is located on leading a trade route and farm supplies. -
Battle of Yorktown
Has started on December 19, 1781 in that George Washington's fame has grown when he and his army won a war that was thought impossible to beat.George Washington with 5,500 French troops went to fight the British that were settled in New York.In 1783 the revolutionary war has ended with it being the treaty called the treaty of Paris. -
Constitutional Convention
Has taken place in the state house of Pennsylvania in 1787 which was started over Shays’s rebellion asking for a stronger government. As such all the states except Rhode Island came to the invention from the Annapolis Convention. -

Is when all the first ten amendments were adopted in 1791.It was made to guarantee to give the people rights and the limitation to the federal and state government. -
Louisiana Purchase
In 1803 all of France territory was purchased from the United States.It was the greatest purchase of land that was made in US history.The purchase made it so that the United States doubled its size. -
Lewis and Clark Expedition
Lewis and Clark started their expedition in 1804. Thomas Jefferson asked Lewis if he could go and explore the land he had purchased from France then Lewis went and selected Clark as the co-commander. -
