    The first 2 political parties in the united States were formed during 1792 and 1793. They were the Federalist and Democratic-Republicans. the Federalist were formed by Alexander Hamilton and the Democratic Republicans were formed by Thomas Jefferson.
  • Alien and Sedation Acts

    Alien and Sedation Acts
    Acts passed by Federalist Congress and approved by the President John Adams during 1798. These laws raised the residence requirement for aliens who wanted citizenship from 5 to 14 years. Also, stated the president could deport or jail foreigners and anyone who impeded government policy or falsely defamed its officials would be liable a hefty fine and imprisonment.
  • Lousiana Purchase

    Lousiana Purchase
    Louisiana was given to France by pain in 1800. Thomas Jefferson sent Robert Livingston along with James Monroe to Paris in 1803 to buy as much land he could with $10 million. Napoleon sold all of Louisianan to the US for $15 million.

    Fletcher vs. Peck was a Supreme Court case that established that the Supreme Court had the right to invalidate state laws deemed unconstitutional, federal laws were supreme than state laws.

    On June 1, 1812 President James Madison asked Congress to declare war om Britain. The Democratic-Republicans (War Hawks) supported the war while the Federalists didn't. The War ended on February 17, 1815 by the treaty of Ghent in 1814. Seen as the "second war of independence".
  • Monroe Doctrine

    Monroe Doctrine
    President James Monroe's warning to the European countries to stay away from the Western Hemisphere (The Americas). The Doctrine thrived off of nationalism and has had a major impact on the United States future foreign and domestic affairs.
