  • John Adams

    Became president in 1796 after Washington.

  • The Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions

    Thomas Jefferson created the Kentucky resolution in fear of prosecution for sedition. James Madison created a similar statement, the Virginia resolution.

  • The Louisiana Purchase

    Jefferson wanted to gain acces to New Orleans from France. Instead Napolean offered Louisiana for $15 million.

  • War of 1812

    United States declared war on Britain. Madison asked for Congress the declare war on Britain on June 1, 1812.

  • Washington Burns

    The British entered the capital and set fire on public buildings including the Capitol and The White House. They tried to take Fort McHenry but were unsuccessful.
