    president Thomas Jefferson was elected as president with the runner up as adams. jeffersons rein ended in 1809

    jefferson chose Meriweather Lewis, his 28 year-old private seceratary, along with 32 year-old clark. they began their expadetion on May 5, 1805 and ended in september 1806
