  • 1492

    Christopher Columbus

    An Italian explorer sailing for Spain who believed that Asia (India) could be reached by sailing west from Europe. His first voyage was in 1492, wherein he discovered North America (Caribbean islands) and named it the West Indies. He will make four voyages to the new world without fully realizing what he had discovered.
  • Jamestown

    First English settlement in North America, by what is now known as Williamsburg, Virginia. It was created in 1607 on May 7th and was dominated by the spanish and native americans.
  • Southern Colonies

    Southern Colonies

    The southern colonies were made of mostly of costal plains and farm land. They relied heavily on slavery and farmers eked out a living.
  • Plymouth

    In September 1620, 100 men and women got on board the mayflower to set sail for the New World. The voyage lasted 66 days and many people aboard the ship were ill. In late December the mayflower anchored at Plymouth Rock where the pilgrims set up their first settlement.

    In 1629 the Massachusetts bay colony was obtained from King Charles l. It was settled in 1630 by a group of around 1,000 Puritan refugees from England.

    In 1664, King Charles ll gave the land between New England and Virginia. Dutchmen made up most of the polulation and stayed when New York was created. This made it one of the most diverse colonies in the world.

    A religious reveal that took place in the 17th-18th century. It was reffered to as Pietism and Quietism in Europe among Protestants and Roman Catholics.

    The compromiose of 1850 was a package with multiple deals in one. The slave trade was abolished in Washington D.C. and the fugitive slave act was amended.

    In 1857 the supreme court upheld slavery shocking everyone in the nation. It denied the legality of black citizen ship and caused the Missouri compromise to be unconstitutional.

    After three years of the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln presented the Emancipation Proclamation stating,"that all persons held as slaves within the rebellious states are, and henceforward shall be free."
