Britain and France both began seizing American ships and had prohibited trade between neutral parties and against themselves.     The treaty was signed by British and American representatives, which in turn ended the war of 1812. The terms of the treaty stated conquered territory to be returned, and comissions to settle boundaries of the United States and Canada.
