  • Proclamation of Neutrality

    Proclamation of Neutrality
    George Washington had issued the Proclamation of Neutrality in means of the United States not getting into any conflicts between two warring nations.
  • XYZ Affair

    XYZ Affair
    John Adams had encountered this foreign issue of a different kind. Trying to resolve this tension he had sent two American diplomats to meet with French officials (X, Y, and Z).. Although the French had demanded a payment before meeting with America, which was brought as a bribe and angered many.
  • Convention of 1800

    Convention of 1800
    The XYZ Affair had broken the relationship between the Americans and the French, and it was definitely hostile between the two. Although there was a peace agreement that was agreed upon, that restored peace between the two nations.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    Thomas Jefferson, is mainly remembered as the author of the Declaration of Independence, but he was also behind the Louisiana Purchase too. He had purchased Louisiana for fifteen-million dollars from Napolean of France, which ended up doubling the United States.
  • Embargo Act

    Embargo Act
    Thomas Jefferson bats again, but this time, he hit a strike and things did not go well. Jefferson asked Congress to pass the Embargo Act which essentially stopped trade from two warring nations, France and Great Britain. Although a good idea, it ended up ruining America's economy, which had a hardship on the economics and ended up not benefitting anyone.

    Impressent, is what they say that caused all of this. James Madison went into a foreign crisis where the British ended up taking American sailors off their ships and forcing them into the British Navy service. American leaders then called war towards the British for this nasty habit of theirs. The ones that Americans fought against were known as War Hawks.

    Treaty of Ghent
    This treaty ended the war without any gains from either side. It returned each side to their territory, and had said nothing about impressments. Although America did gain the ability to defend itself and won respect. Many people have called it "The Second War for Independence!"
  • Era of Good Feelings

    Era of Good Feelings
    This was an era of national pride that America had entered. With the president being James Monroe, they all rejoiced the end of the War of 1812.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    Monroe Doctrine
    James Monroe had issued this Doctrine, basically stating that the United States would in no way tolerate European invention affairs in the event of an independent nation. It had also stated that the Americans could no longer further colonize, and they would view the Acts of Aggression. The President's so called "Hands-Off the Western Hemisphere" had made it clear that the United States had become a powerful nation in world affairs.
