    Marques De Rubi had been sent to Spain to organize the army on November 1, 1716. The next year King Carlos III appoints him as the official inspector of the presidios. He kept a diary of all his findings and his travels in hope that one day someone in the future would find it. Indeed someone did, in 1989.
  • Philip Nolan

    Philip Nolan
    Philip Nolan came to Texas in around 1790. H e proposed a plan to the governer of Lousiana to go to Texas and catch mustangs and sell them in Lousiana (since they were in high demand there). Nolan and his men went to Texas many times to catch mustangs, too many times, so the Spanish soldiers got suspicious and later caught Nolan and his men and arrested them in 1800. Nolans life went downhill from there as he was killed in a fight between the Spanish soldiers and his men in Waco, Tx,

    Father Hidalgo
    Father Hidalgo was the first man to lead a revolt against the Spanish Rule in Mexico. On Spetember 16, 1810 he made a speech called Grito de Delores. He talked about how Mexicans and natives to the land should govern Mexico instead of the Spaniards. Not many people supported Father Hidalgo's opinions, he was stripped of his priesthood by the Spanish and shot by a rebel on August 1, 1811.Ten years later in 1821 the Mexicans got freedom from Spain, and every year Mexican Ind.     The Battle of Medina
    The Battle of Medina was fought on August 18, 1813 between Guiterrez-Magee under Gen. It was said to be the bloodiest battle ever fought in Texas. The army of 1400 men made up of Anglos, Tejanos, Indians, and former Royalists. When the attacks occured, leass than 100 men survived. The casualties bodies layed on the battlefield for the next nine years. This led up to the Texas Revolution.

    Jean Lafitte was given money to start a rival base with the Mexicans against d'Aury. In May 1817 he founded Galveztowwn in honor of the viceroy of Spain. Now Present Day: Galveston. His ships sailed under the flag of Mexico.Later he was notified by president Monroe that the land was under the Lousiana Purchase. In 1821 he left without a fight on his mothership Pride.

    Dr. James Long was the leader of the Long Expedition. He was part of the United States Army as a surgeon for the wounded. The long expedition was where he wanted to get an army of people and conquer Texas. For that he was imprisoned for many years in San Antonio, while he was on this expedition he was shot by a paid guard in 1822.

    The congress passed the national colonization law on August 18, 1824. No lands could be granted within 20 leagues of an international of the coast without the permission of the federal executive authority. Congress made no change to the policy of immigration before 1840.
