    A small child was crying alone and afraid. The child was longing for love and care from its mother, but the mother was not there to care for the child. This happened several times.
    Stage 1- Trust vs Mistrust
    The small child's needs were not met when it was seeking affection and care from its mother. This was reinforced several times and through this, the child began to see that the world would offer no rewards, and that life would be full of doubts.
  • Initiative vs Guilt

    b. A young child tries to plan a party for their father who was divorced by the child's mother. The father does not show up to the party and the mother berates the child telling them that this was bound to happen anyways.

    d. The child will either feel success and pride through positive reinforcement of their plans and actions, or will be treated poorly for their plans and actions causing guilt.

    b. An adolescent begins to find new taste in music, style, and activities. The parent sees this and encourages that the child do what makes them happy.
    c. Identity vs Identity Confusion
    d. This stage adolescents begin to develop who they are and a personal identity. This includes which part of there culture they fall into. Identity confusion will occur if they cannot do this.
