Eris attended Peleus and Thetis' wedding anyway, and presented the guests with a golden apple. This apple had "for the fairest," written on it. The goddesses Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite argued over who should get the apple. They went to Paris and asked him to choose which of them should keep it. Paris decided on Aphrodite because she offered him the love of the most beautiful woman in the world, Helen.
