Tiring of indecisive battles, Menelaus offered to fight Paris, so they could settle the issue of war. Paris won and threw his spear, but it landed harmlessly in the shield of Menelaus. Menelaus, however, was not finished, so he grabbed Paris by his helmet and proceeded to drag him through the field. Choking on the strap of his helmet, Paris was only saved by the intervention of Aphrodite who broke the strap and covered him in a thick mist for protection.
