    Mao Zedong proclaimed the founding of the people's republic of china. Mao's first goal was a total overhaul of the land ownership system, and extensive land reforms. The People's Republic of China was established after Mao beat Chang Kai-shek and forced him to retreat to Taiwan.

    The Chinese economic reform was put in play by Deng Xiaoping in december of 1948. Economic reforms were carried out in two stages. The first stage, in the late 1970s and early 1980s, involved the advancment of agriculture, the opening up of the country to foreign investment, and permission for entrepreneurs to start up businesses. the seccond stage however involved the state-owned industry and the adjustments of price controls.

The governmental authorities not only block website content but also monitor the Internet access of individuals. It was said that China has the largest recorded number of imprisoned journalists and cyber-dissidents in the world.
