The law of May 28, 1830 gave any tribe permission to trade land for the land beyond the Mississippi River.

The Sauk and Fox Indians fought relocation under the rule of Black Hawk. This resulted in the death of many warriors from both tribes. Black Hawk himself died when the military took down his warriors.

Colonel Abel C. Pepper, of Lawrenceburg bought the Potawatomi Indian's land for $1 per acre and giving them 2 years to begin migration.

Squatters began to enter the country and settle on the Indian land. The Indians expected to keep thier land for a little longer, they began to show resentment as forceable removale was coming. The Squatters wanted the indians things, the indians refused and it ended in violence.
