    Colombus First Reaches America
    Funded by Spain, Christopher Colombus set of to spice islands but landed on the shores of North America. He was the first to reach America and settle. Once Colombus settled, Native Americans were made slaves and killed. Although this brought new oppurtunity and much trade and profit.
  • Jamestown is Founded

    Jamestown is Founded
    Virgina landed on a penninsula and settled in Jamestown. It was the first successful colony. Many colonists had to work the field to keep up with the demand for tobacco which would help the town grow along with the rest of the US in the fight for freedom.

    British Parliament passes Stamp Act
    Britain passed a new called the Stamp Act, putting a tax on all paper documents. This made many colonists angry wanting to revolt. Great Britain repealed the act and then created the Intolerable Acts that had made the colonists even more upset leading to them wanting independence.

    Boston Rebels dressed as Native Americans, dumped 18,000 pounds of tea into the Boston Harbor as a statement to the King that they did not approve of the taxes on it. This led to them repealing the act, thus creating the Intolerable Acts.

    After being fed up with all of the taxes and unreasonable Acts, colonists decided they had had enough. Therefore, they wrote a document stating their wants and their independence from Great Britain. Although this led to several years of fighting and hardship for the thirteen new colonies.

    Mexicans were angered by the US for annexing Texas. Polk ordered Colonel Stephen Kearny and his troops to march to Santa Fe, New Mexico.They were met by upper class Mexicans who wanted to join the US. New Mexico fell to the US.

    After winning the trial against Douglas, Lincoln was elected 16th presisdent of the United States. Lincoln had the difficult task of trying to keep peace between the North and the South. The South felt they had no voice against the North and eventually started to succeed creating a war between them both.

    After Abraham Lincoln was elected South Carolina succeeded along with Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas.The confederacy was formed which would then face the North in the future. Jeferson Davis was elected president as the Civil War began. In the end the North had defeated the South against a long battle for slavery and states rights.

    Battles of Gettysburg and Vicksburg
    Lee gave up hope attacking the North after being driven back. The North had much more confidence against facing the South after this, giving them more confidence. Many people were killed in these two battles. Grant won at Vicksburg and the confederacy was now in two.
