    The toddler may stand alone without support for a short time and cruise the furniture. The toddler may also take a few steps alone or walk while holding onto to parents' hands. The toddler may climb on chairs, sofas, and tables or may climb out of crib, high chair, or stroller.

    The toddler may begin to form concepts and loves to mimic all actions. The toddler likes to look at picture books and shows interests in new textures. The toddler may try to experiment with actions never tried before.
  • 16-18 months; Physical

    The toddler walks fast and runs stiffly. It pushes and pulls large toys around the floor and can jump with both feet. The toddler has a short attention span and remembers where objects belong.
  • 16-18 months; Cognitive

    The toddler remembers where things belong and begins to figure things out through the thought process. It has a short attention span and enjoys scribbling more freely on paper. The toddler can also identify simple pictures in a book.
  • 19-21 months; Physical

    The toddler can walk up and down the stairs with help. The toddler can respond rythmically to music with whole body. Loves to run, jump, and climb as well as moving around a lot more.

    The toddler is interested in tiny objects such as bugs and looks at books for longer periods of time in order to study the pictures. The toddler is able to complete jigsaw puzzles. It learns to distinguish different sounds and smells.

    The toddler walks with more coordination and is able to bounce and sway in simple dancing motions. It has the ability to jump with both feet off the ground. The toddler likes to walk on low walls and perform other stunts.

    The toddler is able to follow simple directions and is curious about objects in the environment. The toddler can identify if a picture is upside down and can distinguish between vertical and horizontal lines.
  • 24-30 months; Physical

    The toddler climbs everywhere indoors, plays on the swings, ladders, and other playground equipment. The toddler can kick a ball forward and can throw the ball without aiming. The toddler may collide with other people or obstacles.

    The toddler becomes increasingly interested in children's TV shows and understands cause and effect in terms of it's own behavior. The toddler enjoys playing house and imitating family situations. It likes to listen to tapes and records of stories and songs.
  • 30-36 months; Cognitive

    The toddler becomes more skilled in putting puzzles together and reveals intellectual curiosity in reading books and watching TV. The toddler can stack rings in the correct order and can recognize itself in a picture.

    The toddler likes to be in constant motion, running or walking sideways and backwards. The child may sit in adult chairs and prefer them over smaller ones. The toddler can catch a large ball in it's arms and hands out straight.
