Life in California after Mexico’s independence
In the late 1820’s California was sort of being forgotten by Mexico and we’re receiving not much help from them. So they were already growing ties with the U.S. and Great Britain. Later on people in California would hope U.S. would annex them and have them as a state as well. This was a concern for Mexico. -
Headed Towards War
After Mexico had their independence from Spain Texas was looking at it as an opportunity to get their own independence. This was going on for a while and after Texas did gain their independence they wanted to get annexed by the U.S. If they U.S. were to do this they would face problems with Mexico and they didn’t want. They also had problems going on. -

Mexican American at War
This war happened May 06, 1846. This war happened because the U.S. wanted every piece of land and part of the lands between them at the Pacific Ocean were part of Mexico. So at first U.S. offered to buy the land but Mexico saw it as an insult. So they declined the offer and the U.S. went to war to take it from them. -
Land Grants
In 1851 after U.S. had gained California, Texas, New Mexico, etc. many natives were losing their land because land grants weren’t as up to date. In Texas their land grants were recent so many kept their land but sold some to help fight their cases. -
Foreigners in their Own Land
As Anglos we’re moving to the west in California their was a lot of attention. Their was a lot of attention because gold was discovered and so many Anglos rushed to get their to get some fortune as well. Although Mexico residents were there already they were treated as foreigners and were treated with violence by the new comer. This caused a lot of Mexican Americans to move away from the violence. So they looked for other work and weren’t treated fairly anywhere. -
