    ELAS surrenders and a treaty was negotiated which signaled the end of the war. Nikos Zachariadis, the general secratary of the Communist party of Greece, announced a ceasefire to prevent the annihillation of Greece which ended the war.

    Though greatly outnumbered, the rebels repeatedly inflicted heavy
