The exploration of Africa began with the Greeks and Romans, but in the 15th century Portuguese explorer Henry the Navigator began the exploration of Africa along its west coast, starting trade with europe in the region. In the late 18th century the already mapped Africa began to be colonised for reasources by european countries, who also used it to expand thir sphere of influence.

The Age of Exploration was a time period at the end of the middle ages when European countries were looking to expand their wealth and size. It was a dangerous time were explorers were forced to go out into a completely unexplored area in search of new trade routes and new land with resources, such as gold and spices. This was also a time of increased scientific understanding of the world that came from the exploration of new lands, and resulted in an almost complete geographic knowledge.

The Asante Empire was a West African slave trading kingdom that occupied what is now southern Ghana in the 18th and 19th century. After years of struggle the Asante people were finally able to conquer their neighbors and form the Asante Empire, under the rule of their new king Osei Tutu. They were able to fight of the British in the early 1800's but they later became a British colony in 1902.

The industrial revolution was a shift from localized manufacturing in the home or town to a more centralized industrial production of goods. The industrial revolution stemmed from England and was enabled by the development of water and steam power. The revolution resulted in a huge increase in the textile and steal industry that allowed once expensive goods to be a lot cheaper and more availible, at the cost of worst working conditions for the working class.

Richard Arkwright was an English inventor who devolped the water frame which was a water powered spinning machine that spun cotton yarn onto spools. It was much more efficent then spinning by hand, this allowed an increase in growth in the textile industry.

A Book written by Charles Darwin that accounts his theory of evolution through natural selection. He discovered this theory while he was traveling aroung the world on the H.M.S. Beagle. The theory is that more desirable traits are passed on eventually allowing an organism to adapt to its environment.

Social darwinism was a social and political movement inspired by Charles Darwin that applie the theory to politics. For instance the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer. Survival of the fittest is that whoever is most equipped will be more succesful.

The partition of Africa started with the colonization of Africa by Europe for resources and to spread their influence. After WWI the european countries decided to split Africa up into the curent countries today.
