    Facts:
    Christopher Columbus accidentaly found america
    America was named after Amerigo Vespucci
    Effects:
    Countries got more resources
    People had a new place to go and start a new life
  • Roanoke established

    Facts:
    John White was the governor of Roanoke.
    The colonist of Roanoke didn't know how to farm or hunt.
    Effects:
    Eventually became the lost colony
    Became a legacy for years to come
  • Jamestown

    Facts:
    Famine, disease and conflict with local Native American tribes in the first two years brought Jamestown to the brink of failure before the arrival of a new group of settlers and supplies in 1610.
    Tobacco became Virginia’s first profitable export
    Effects:
    First permanent European settlement in america
    Many colonists died from drinking impure water or from diseases spread by mosquitoes during the hot months.

    They traveled aboard the Mayflower

    the survivors were able to secure peace treaties with neighboring Native American tribes and build a largely self-sufficient economy within five years

    Facts:
    Also known as the Seven Years’ War
    Was a struggle between Britain and France Effects:
    the British received the territories of Canada from France and Florida from Spain, opening the Mississippi Valley to westward expansion.
    The treaty strengthened the American colonies significantly by removing their European rivals to the north and south and opening the Mississippi Valley to westward expansion

    Facts:
    issued by the British King George III
    made following the British victory over France in the French and Indian Wars
    Effects:
    it closed off the frontier to colonial expansion.

  • Treaty of Paris of 1763

    Facts:
    signed by Great Britain, France, and Spain
    Together with the treaty of Hubertusburg, it terminated the Seven Years War. Effects:
    France lost its possessions on the North American continent by ceding Canada and all its territories east of the Mississippi to Great Britain
    In East India the French were permitted to return to their posts, but they were forbidden to maintain troops or build forts in Bengal
  • Revolutionary War

    Facts:
    Colonists were frustrated because Britain forced them to pay taxes, yet did not give them any representation in the British Parliament.
    Congress chose George Washington as commander and chief of America's armed forces. Effects:
    The 13 states were now free to join together and become the United States of America.
    Americans could now form their own government and make their own laws.

  • Treaty of Paris of 1783

    Facts:
    Granted the U.S. significant western territories
    Other important provisions established U.S. boundaries, specified certain fishing rights, allowed creditors of each country to be paid by citizens of the other, restored the rights and property of Loyalists, opened up the Mississippi River to citizens of both nations and provided for evacuation of all British forces.

    Ended the revolutionary war

  • Constitution created

    Facts:
    The U.S. Constitution was prepared in secret, behind locked doors that were guarded by sentries.
    Of the written national constitutions, the U.S. Constitution is the oldest and shortest. Effects:

    It's given Americans freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom from unreasonable searches, and protections in the courts.
  • John Adams elected president

    Facts:
    When John Adams became president the United States had a population of 4’900,000.
    Adams was the first lawyer-president.
    Effects:
    Adams has been justifiably censured for having signed the Alien and Sedition Acts
    when faced with populist defiance, such as in Fries's Rebellion, he ignored Hamilton's call for a strong show of federal force
  • XYZ Affair

    Facts:
    The affair was a diplomatic incident between French and United States diplomats
    Started because France, which was at war with Great Britain, issued an order allowing for the seizure of American merchant ships in 1796
    Effects:
    The affair resulted in an undeclared war with France known as the Quasi-War
    The affair further fanned Federalist passions for war who rallied around the slogan, "Millions for defense, but not one cent for tribute."
  • Alien and Sedition Acts

    series of four laws passed by the Federalist-controlled Congress in 1798 The laws placed severe restrictions upon aliens, who often supported the Democratic-Republicans, and they made it illegal to utter any statements about the government that were "false, scandalous and malicious" with the "intent to defame"
