The title says it all. Napoleon was a charismatic Corsican general, who was very popular in France and led armies across Europe and in North Africa and the Levant.

The concordat recognized the influence of the Catholic Church, but did not allow it influence in French politics. Symbolically, Napoleon met with the Pope in Paris and took a crown off his head and put it on his own.

The code established some liberties. Overall, however, it reduced liberties and established censorship and restored slavery to France's Caribbean colonies (not a good decision).
