  • Jamestown was established.

    Jamestown was established.
    On May 14, 1607, A group of about 100 members took the journey to North America. Diseases, famine and problems with the Native Indians almost caused the new town to fail. Once Jamestown started to export Tobacco, Jamestown started to flourish. To attract new immigrants to the new world, Virginia offered 50 acres of land to any immigrant who paid for their own, or another passage to the new world.
  • Galileo Galilei astronomical spotting

    Galileo spotted the moons of Jupiter through a telescope. He proves that the theory that planets circle the sun is correct (Copernican System).
  • Pilgrims

    Some 100 people, most of them seeking religious freedom in the new world, set sail from England on the ship called the Mayflower. This group of settlers landed on the shore at Plymouth Harbor. Aboard the mayflower, they created the first governing document called the Mayflower compact.
  • Ming Dynasty

    Ming Dynasty
    This was the end of the Ming Dynasty(had been ruled this way for 276 years). China-Manchus comes into power beginning a new tyrannical Chinese ruling.
  • Great Plague

    Great Plague
    The Great Plague in London killing about 100000 people and lasted a year. It was the major epidemic of the Bubonic plague which is a bacterial infection normally from fleas.
  • Famine in France

    A great famine took place in France killing 2 million people and lasted 2 years. The famine was due to a severe winter resulting in poor crop yields.
  • French and Indian War.

    Also known as the seven years' war. When France decided to expand their territory into the Ohio River valley, it brought conflict with the British and some Native Indians. This expansion led to a series of battles between the British and some native tribes. Eventually these series of battles escalated into the official declaration of war. The French were allies with the Hurons and other Indian tribes and the British were allies with the Iroquois. The war ended Feb10, 1763.

    The Proclamation of 1763.
    After the end of the French and Indian war, the British began to control the colonies from forming new settlements in the territory of Indians. King George lll declared all land west of the Appalachian Divide off limits to settlers. This imaginary line would keep settlers off of Indian land and possibly being attacked by Indians. Only licensed traders could go west.

    John Quincy Adams is born.
    John Quincy Adams was born on July 11, 1767. He was born in Braintree, Massachusetts. He was the son of the second president John Adams and his mother was Abigail Adams.
  • American Revolutionary War

    This war arose from growing conflicts between the colonies and the British government. After some battles between the British red coats and colonial militiamen in April 1775, the colonial militia declared war for independence from the British government. This civil war turned international when the French helped the colonies force the British to surrender in 1783.
  • Articles of Confederation

    The Articles of Confederation was the first constitution of the United States. There were many flaws including a weak central government and it failed to address economic issues. It also restricted foreign trade and after the revolutionary war, the United States was heavily in debt. The passing of the Articles of Confederation was slowed down by many fears. Colonists feared this would create a government just like the British government. The Articles of Confederation was ratified March1, 1781.
  • Ratification of the Constitution

    Ratification of the Constitution
    The Constitution was created to fix the flaws of the Articles of Confederation. On June 21, 1788 New Hampshire was the ninth and final state needed to ratify the Constitution. It was ratified by nine out of the thirteen states. The Constitution created a strong central government, with checks and balances to make sure one branch does not have too much power.
  • John Quincy Adam's Marriage to Louisa Johnson

    John Quincy Adam's Marriage to Louisa Johnson
    John Quincy Adams married Louisa, the second oldest daughter of the Johnsons. She was the first foreign born wife of a president and was the daughter of an American merchant.
    "Louisa was beautiful, cultured and fluent in French, the language of diplomats (Unger 99)."
  • Appointed to U.S. Senate.

    John Quincy Adams was appointed to US Senate switching from the Federalist part to Democratic Republican Party. He supported the Louisiana Purchase and the Embargo Act making him widely unpopular.

  • John Quincy Adams as Minister to Russia

    John Quincy Adams when he was sent to St. Petersburg, Russia to help create alliances between Russia and the United States. He served as secretary and translator for Francis Dana.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    Treaty of Ghent
    John Quincy Adams headed the American designation signing the Treaty of Ghent. This helped in ending the War of 1812.
  • John Quincy Adams as Secretary of State

    John Quincy Adams was the secretary of state under president James Monroe for two terms, 8 years. He is one of the most successful secretary of state's electees of all time and handled many foreign affairs.
    "My office of secretary of state makes it the interest of all the partisans of the candidates for the next presidency...to decry me as much as possible in the public opinion (Unger 194)."
  • John Quincy Adams becomes the sixth president of the United States.

    After a heavy presidential election, John Quincy Adams became the sixth president of the United States in 1824. While in office John proposed a lot of national programs including, federal funding and interstate system of roads. When he was up for reelection, he was hurt by rumors of corruption and ended up losing his reelection.
  • John Quincy Adams House of Representatives.

    After John lost his reelection he then won the election into the House of Representatives in 1830. He was the leading congress and had strong speeches against slavery. After having two strokes, John Quincy Adams died in 1848, at the age of 80 years old.

    Willem II Becomes King
    Willem II became king of the Netherlands. He later led the Belgium Revolution and was actually in the British Army in 1811.
  • The Civil War/ Fort Sumter

    The Civil War/ Fort Sumter
    The Union base in Fort Sumter in South Carolina was cut off from necessary supplies by the southerns. On April 12, 1861 president Lincoln sent word that he was sending supplies to the base and the southerns ended up firing at the base and ended up capturing it. This would be the beginning of the Civil War.
