Miguel Hidalgo was a priest who wanted to free Mexico from Spain so he gave a speech to get the Mexicans to fight the Spanish. In the end, 900,000 people fought with Hidalgo agianst the Spanish soldiers in Mexico.

Jose Morelos fought with the Mexicans who wanted to rebel against Spain and won many wars with them. That is untilll he was killed by Agustin de Iturbide.

Iturbide made the Spainish sign the Plan of Igula which had 3 promises:
- Iturbide would be the Emporer of Mexico
-Catholic would be the official religion
-All Mexicans would have equal rights -
Iturbide is the Spainsh officer who killed Jose Morelos. He realized that he was the only person standing in the Mexicans way and that if he switched sides he would have a lot of power in Mexico. So he switched sides and help the Mexicans make Spain agree to the Plan of Iguala

After Iturbide was driven from his power as Emporer Mexico became a republic government. But there were many flaws in this system like:
- Poverty
- Infighting
- Presidents woulld gain and lose their power very quickly. -
Santa Anna was eleted to be the leader of Mexico and then exilled into Cuba untill the Mexican American War.

Santa Anna was alllowed to come back to help Mexico get back the land America stole, which included parts of Texas Nevada and California. Unfortunately America won the war.

Benito Juarez wanted the Catholic church to be less powerful and to be able to belong to a different religion. Juarez cused the Reform Civil war. In the end, the church lost.

The group who lost the reform war looked to France for help. The French then invaded Mexico and crowned Maximilian a Austrailian prince to be the Emperor. But the Mexicans didn't like this.

A fight broke out in Europe and the French soldiers stationed in Mexico went back France; Giving Juarez and his followers the perfect opportunity to kill Maximilian and take back their Country.

Diaz seized power and didn't care about the rights of his people. He was a dictator, a ruler with complete authority.

Francisco Madero got bands of rebels to help him attack Diaz. Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata helped Madero quite a bit. Madero then became president.

Mexico became a democratic government, a government that has the power with the people. The new goverment broke up the estates and gave land to the poor. It also gave controll of Mexicos resources to the people.
