Timeline of US History

  • French and Indian War

    France and Britain didn't like each other in the first place. The French were crossing the Ohio river and ran into some British territories. Several battles turned into Britain calling on a war. The Indians fought with the British and Americans fought with the French.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Many of the American Colonies were upset for Britain adding a tax to their tea that they abolished their ship-cartons full of tea. Just completely dumped it all in to the water.
  • Revolutionary War

    The revolutionary war was between Great Britain and the United States in order to get freedom for the US. The war was fought on US soil. Famous sayings include: "The redcoats are coming!" "Give me liberty or give me death."
  • Writing of the Constitution

    The Constitution that our country (tries) to abide by was just starting to get written here. The signing of the document was September 17, 1787.
  • Start of Factories

    The North, South, East, and West, all of the US started to make factories in order to create things. This helped them to create their products faster and in larger quantities, and it gave a lot of people jobs.
  • Lewis and Clark

    Lewis and Clark were sent on an expedition in order to find out what the Louisiana territory was like. They documented a lot of their findings using sketches and journals, and they also had a Native American woman by the name of Sacajawea who helped them as a translator and guide. (Not exact date, just in the summer)
  • Industrial Revolution

    Many different inventions were being created because of the time period. Inventions such as the cotton gin, railroads, steamboats, telegraph, etc. A time period of enlightenment.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Trying to decide whether Missouri and Maine be a free state or not, this compromise was passed and it stated that any state above the Missouri state line was to be free and anything below it was to be a slave state.
  • Manifest Destiny

    People believed that it was God's will for America to have all of the land from the Pacific ocean to the Atlantic.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    One of the bloodiest battles of the Revolutionary war. People were going completely bonkers and didn't care who they were killing. Everyone was upset about the Missouri compromise and among things.
  • Civil War

    A war between the Southern states (of which succeeded from the Union) and the Northern states for their stance on slavery. Many many battles were fought and there were almost equally as many Confederate wins than Union wins. The war lasted 4 years and finally the Union side won.
  • Assassination of President Lincoln

    John Wilkes Booth, thinking he was some kind of Confederate Southern saint, somehow got in to the building where Lincoln was with his wife and shot him in the back of his head. Instead of becoming a hero, many people abhorred this man.
  • The Reconstruction

    The reconstruction was a time of questioning for the people of the US. Radical Republicans were angry at what was taking place. They wanted for blacks to have the same rights as whites and they wanted the Confederates to be punished. President Johnson vetoed every bill regarding freeing the blacks. The Klu-Klux-Klan shortly took place as well.
