    History of the U.S

    In this timeline, I will show you all the major events that happened throughout the Unite State History. We will start with the early settlers from Europe and end with the Civil war and the end of slavery.
  • Early Settlement/ Jamestown

    Early Settlement/ Jamestown
    Jamestown was founded in 1607 by the English. The key person was Captain James Smith. Once things were settled Jamestown was a big trading hub as its cash crop was Tabacco.
  • The Mayflower

    The Mayflower
    The Mayflower Landed in Plymouth in 1620. It transported English families looking for a fresh start and most important religious freedom.
  • The Sale of NYC

    The Sale of NYC
    In 1626 the Island of Manhattan was bought by the Dutch West India Company for $24. The Dutch would rename it to New Amsterdam and it would stay like that till the 1670s when the British gained control over New York.
  • The Seven Years War

    The Seven Years War
    The Seven Years War was a war for supremacy fought between the major powers of Europe mostly France and Britain. The War is considered by many to be the first World War. The war in America was mostly fought in New York and Canida. It was fought for land as the British tried to expand west into French land. In the end, the British won and gained the land to the west.

    After the Seven Years War, the British were in a lot of debt so they raised taxes on the 13 Collines Like the tax on sugar act, stamps act, and the town stead act.
  • Independents

    On the Four of July 1776, the second cognitional Congress signed the Declaration of Independents. This was Mostly done so the U.S could get help from the French and Spanish.
  • The Revolution

    The Revolution
    The War lasted eight years from 1775 to 1783. The war started at Concord with the shot heard around the World. The War ended at Yorktown when General Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington.
  • The Signing of The Constitution

    The Signing of The Constitution
    The Constitution was made to replace the Articles of Confederation with was weak. The reason for this was it did not give enough power to the Federal government so the Constitution was made to fix that. People like Thomas Jefferson were worried about the power that the Constitution gave to the Federal government so they agreed on the bill of rights which limited the power of the government.

    The Washington Administration
    Georg Washington won the first Presidential election beating out John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. The administration faced early challenges from the tax hike on whiskey which caused rebellions. These got so bad that the military had to be called in to stop the rebels. Washington was also met with the fighting of his Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson and Tershery Secretary Alexander Hamilton. As the two of them were at the top of their party's there was a lot of fighting between them.

    The Adams Administration
    John Adams won the presidential race by beating out Thomas Jefferson. Adams like Washington was faced with early problems. The big thing was that Britain and France were at war with each other. Many people in the U.S wanted to help the French in the war to support their allies and to get back at Britain for their stealing of American ships and men. Adams did not want to go to war seeing that the U.S was too weak to fight The French did not respond well to this and started to kidnap the people.

    The Alien and Sedition Act
    In response to France's actions, Adams sent diplomats to France the French wanted $12 million to meet. Adams then created the alien and sedition which basically took away the right to free speech and gave the government new power to deport foreigners, and made it harder for immigrants to vote. These acts were wildly unpopular. Adams also created the navy to defend the U.S's interests
  • The election of 1800

    The election of 1800
    The election of 1800 caused a lot of trouble all because Thomas Jefferson and Arron Burr were tied. This caused a big problem with many people were fearing a power vacuum that would lead to a civil war. This final came to a end when a reperentive changed his vote to Jefferson this ending the stail mate and handing Jefferson the win.
  • The Jefferson Administration

    The Jefferson Administration
    After Jefferson won the election we to was faced with big problems the most important was that the Napoleonic wars had just broken out in Europe. Jefferson wanting to stay out of the war set sanctions on both France and Britain. This weakened the U.S economy which lead to a resection. The biggest thing of Jefferson's presidency was the Louisiana purchase. Which the U.S bought from Napolince for only $15 million.

    The 1812 War
    With the Napoleonic war at its height and France fighting not only the British but all of Europe including the Russian empire. Tensions rose between the U.S and the British over the impressment actions of the English. With Napoleon losing in Russia the war in the U.S got very intense with the British burning down the white house. Finally, the war ended in 1815, and Napoleon was defeated later that year. Nothing really change and the only loser was the Native American.
  • The Monroe Doctrine

    The Monroe Doctrine
    The Monroe Doctrine was a policy set up by president James Monroe after the war of 1812. It was made to oppose Europe's imperialism of the Americas. The policy showed that the U.S was willing to fight to defend freedom in the Americas and showed a power shift from Europe to the U.S. With the U.S and Britain being two of the most powerful economic and military might during the time.
  • The Texas Revolution /The Mexican-American War

    The Texas Revolution /The Mexican-American War
    The war started due to the U.S annexing Texas and Mexican troops attacking U.S troops in disputed lands. The U.S quickly took over lands in California and nowadays New Mexico and Arizona. Still, the Mexican government would not sign a pace teary so the U.S invaded and took control of the capital Mexico City. The war is most remembered for the Alamo
  • Election Of 1860

    Election Of 1860
    With Tensions high between the north and the south. Abraham Lincoln was elected president. The south feared that this new government would outlaw slavery altogether. This would leave the southern state very weak. On December 24 1860 South Carilone sent a letter to the House saying they would leave the Union and be its own Country. This set off a chain reaction that split the country into a north and south.
  • The Civil War

    The Civil War
    The civil war started when the Confederacy opened fire on Fort Sumter and seized the fort. The war lasted four years and ended when Robert E Lee surrendered to USS S Grant. The most famous events are the Battle of Gettysburg, Antietam, and Sherman's march south. The biggest effect was the end of slavery and left the south externally weak
  • Lincolns Assignation

    Lincolns Assignation
    President Lincoln was killed on Aprile fourteenth 1865 while at a play in Ford's theater in D.C. He was shot by John Wilkes Booth who was a popular actor.
  • Reconstruction

    Reconstruction
    Reconstruction was the period after the civil war in which the southern states tried to rebuild after the war. After Lincoln's death Andrew Johnson was made president. Johnson and Congress were unable to make a plan for the south's future. This lead to the Union troops being pulled out of the south. This would lead to the creation of the KKK and the Jim Crow law. Which hurt thousands of Africa Americans for the next one hundred years
