Muhammad, which means "to praise" was born in the town of Mecca.

After his mother's death, Muhammad is taken in by his grandfather, Abd al-Muttalib. And after his death, his parental uncle, Abu Talib.

Muhammad recieved his first revaltion on Mount Hira. At first, he thought he was hallucinating, but he then became convinced that it was the Angel of Gabriel. He repeated his visions, and shared them with his wife, close friends, and family.

During Muhammad's "Night Journey" or "Night Ascent", Muhammad was lifted up on a steed, and was carried from Medina to Jerusalem and then to Paradise, where he met prophets of Allah that had gone before him, such as Adam, David, Moses, and Jesus. This then gave him assurance that he too was a prophet.

Muhammad consummates his marriage to Aisha, his nine-year-old bride. Originally when Muhammad had asked for Aisha's hand in marriage, her father, Abu Bakr, had protested.

Muhammad began his military years when the Meccans were angry at Muhammad's success, and went to battle against the Meccans in three major battles: The Battle of Badr, The Battle of Uhud, and The Battle of the Trench and the Siege of Medina. In March, 628, a treaty was signed between the two sides.

Muhammad returned to Mecca to perform a pilgrimage. He died in Medina after a brief illness. He is buried in the mosque of Medina.

The death of his wealthy and only wife Khadijah, who was Muhammad's distant cousins, was quickly followed by the death of his uncle and protector, Abu Talib. Not long after, he asks Abu Bakr, his father-in-law, for his six-year-old-daughters hand in marriage.
