    "War of 1812". War against Britain and its allies. Ended with the Treaty of Ghent in 1815.

  • Andrew Jackson elected president

    Andrew Jackson elected 7th president of the U.S. "People's president". Founded Democratic party.

  • Manifest Destiny begins

    During the 1840s, Manifest Destiny, the idea that it was God's will for the Americans to expand westward, was sweeping the nation.

  • Treaty of Guadeloupe Hidalgo

    Ended Mexican War. U.S. acquires California and most of the west with this treaty.

  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    Bill that allowed the majority of settlers to decide if it was a slave or free state.

  • Abraham Lincoln elected president

  • Civil War begins
