Timeline for Personal History Day

  • Birth- Personal

    I was born on March 11, 1995 in Hendersonville, NC
  • Pretend Teacher- Professional

    While there is no exact date, when I was about 5 I began playing pretend school with my grandma. I was the teacher, and she was my student. I believe that this was the first time I realized my calling to be teacher.
  • Became a Christian- Personal

    I became a Christian when I was 6 years old. This impacts every aspect of my life, both personally and professionally.
  • Dad passed away- Personal

    My dad passed away while we were in Israel with our church from a massive heart attack. Even though he's gone, the way dad lived still impacts me and the way I try to live every day.
  • Brevard High School- Personal

    I went to a private Christian school for part of middle school and almost all of high school. I was forced to transfer to Brevard High School for my senior year when my private school shut down. While it wasn't where I planned on graduating from, I had an amazing senior year and made memories I would never have made at my private school. Looking back, I'm glad I was able to experience senior year at Brevard.
  • Peer Tutor- Professional

    In transferring to Brevard High, I had the wonderful opportunity to be a peer tutor in a special ed. classroom. While I had worked with individuals with special needs before, this is what influence me to looking into teaching special education as a profession. A special education program was something I began looking for in colleges, which lead me to looking at Carson-Newman,
  • Best Buddies- Professional

    I began college at Carson-Newman in August of 2013. At the activities fair, I connected with the group Best Buddies. In joining, I have made wonderful memories all four years of college. This has culminated in me being co-president senior year. Best Buddies gave me the opportunity to work with a wide range of individuals with disabilities, as well as build my communication and leadership skills.
  • Acceptance to Teacher Education Program- Professional

    I was accepted into the Teacher Education Program the spring of my sophomore year of college. This is when my career became real for me. I began doing practicums and getting a taste of what it would be like for me to be a teacher. For me, this solidified that I really was called and wanted to be a teacher.
  • First Apartment- Personal

    In the few weeks before senior year of college began, I signed the lease to my first home.
  • Graduation-Professional

    While I haven't student taught or gotten to graduation yet, graduation will be my next big step in my career. It will mean the end of my college career and the beginning of my professional career. I will start my life as a teacher, beginning with looking for a job.
