  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase

    After the French and Indiana war France lost all of its rights of North America. Which led to Thomas Jefferson making an agreement with France to give the U.S. 828,800 square miles of the French territory La Louisiane. This doubled the size of the United States. States acquired: Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, parts of south and north Dakota, NE of New Mexico, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and Louisiana.
  • War of 1812 -1815

    War of 1812 -1815

    The U.S. were upset and tired of British treatment as they stopped their trade and imprisoned U.S. merchants seamen that were forced to serve the British. This started many battles between the British and U.S. and the burning of the White House. The ratification of the Treaty of Ghent ended the war and all conquered territories were returned.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    Monroe Doctrine

    This doctrine was President James Monroes annual message to congress and discussed foreign policies. Some major points are: 1) the U.S. wouldn't interfere with in internal affairs. 2) the U.S. recognized and would not interfere with existing colonies and dependencies in the Western Hemisphere. 3) Western Hemisphere was closed to future colonizations 4) attempts of European power to oppress or control any nation in the Western Hemisphere would be viewed as a hostile act against the United States
  • Trail of Tears

    Trail of Tears

    In the 1830s there was the suffering and relocation of many indigenous tribes a few were the Cherokee, Creek, Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Seminole. They forcibly were moved by the U.S. government from the southeast to present day due to Andrew Jacksons Indian Removal Act, causing thousands of people to die on the journey there.

    Manifest Destiny was a philosophy that was considered to be the divine right and that the U.S was destined to expand westward.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    Kansas-Nebraska Act

    This act was a proposed bill by Stephen Douglas to organize the territory of Nebraska. Though it was also the talk of possibly bringing slavery back into territories that banned it. To get more vote Douglas added an amendment so that the Missouri compromise was repealed and creates the two territories Kansas and Nebraska. This allowed for the territories to vote on their own if they will permit slavery.
  • Civil War

    Civil War

    From 1861-1865 the constant tension between both Northern and Southern states caused a war. Northern states had a well manufacturing and industrial established economy with few scaled farms.The Southern states had an economy of large scaled farming and heavily relied on slaves. Abolition sentiments grew in the North which the south did not like. The confederates and union began to have many battles. After the Emancipation Proclamation and the assassination of Lincoln, the war was over.
  • Reconstruction era

    Reconstruction era

    From 1865-1877 the U.S. began the reintegration of southern states and millions of newly freed people. There were still many restrictions for African Americans as black codes were created and the KKK. Soon after the U.S. passed the Freedmen's Bureau and the Civil Rights Bill that gave equal protection and social opportunities no matter your race or religion. The ending of the reconstruction era was due to the messy1876 election which created the compromise of 1877 and the democrats power back.
  • The Gilded Age

    The Gilded Age

    The Gilded Age was between the reconstruction and progressive era. Its name was coined by Mark Twains novel and was an era of prosperous growth in industry and technology. It was also the era of corrupt and greedy people like industrialists, politicians, and bankers with the most power. Many great people helped on another during these times like Jane Adams. The end of this era resulted in the stock market crashing which left the whole middle class fed up with the political power.
  • The Progressive Era

    The Progressive Era

    The progressive era was the time where political movements were made to help succeed in social and political reform. People also wanted to end the political corruption and influence of large corporations. This was also the time where woman got their right to vote.
