    Mongol Empire (Imperialism)
    The Mongol Empire was one of the greatest empires in history. It began with the rise of Genghis Khan, who united the warning Mongol tribes in 1206 before going on to conquer the most of the Asian continent. At its height, the Mongol empire spanned roughl 16% of the Earth's surface and controlled over 100 million people. The short term effects were that Genghis Khan was killed. The long term effects were the Mongol Empire untied many people from many different ethnicity and religion.

    Enlightenment is when people had important power and the capability to reason. It was thought that this capability to reason would allow people to break away from the superstitious beliefs of the past. The cause of the enlightenment was the expansion of new ideas. These ideas went against the church's teachings. These ideas were progressions in science and technology. The ideas were rejected by the church and most of the people that came up with these ideas were put on trial and imprisoned.

    The steam engine was the greatest achievement of Industrial Revolution. Steam engines produced the power needed to drive machinery and transport. The invention of the stteam engine came about due to the rising demand for coal to heat homes and other bulidings. The short term effects on this were that people saved on labour and increased production and enabled the substitution of coal for wood. The long term effects were now factories can be built anywhere.

    In 1787 a fleet of ships set out from Europe to Australia. On these ships there were convicts. Majority of these convicts were sentenced to transportation due to theft. There were 5 convicts under the age of 15, the youngest being 9. More than 80% of the convicts were men. The long term effects were that many of the convicts helped build some buildings that are still standing today. The short term effects were that the Indigenous Australians were furious when they arrived on their land.

    In 1787, a fleet of ships set out from England to establish a colony in Australia with a purpose to relocate as many thieves and criminals as possible.The First Fleet arrived at Sydney Cove on 26th January 1788 under Captain Arthur Phillip. Majority of the convicts were sentenced to transportation due to petty theft (stolen food etc.).The short term effect were that many diseases were bought over. The long term effects were it has changed the way people think of Aboriginies.

    The Indigenous People were the first people to live in Australia. They migrated from many places such as Africa and Asia around 70,000 years ago and arrived in Australia about 50,00 years ago. Many of them died on their way over to Australia due to diseases. The short term effects were violent conflicts and diseases. The long term effects were the Europeans took over Australia and yet still today the Indigenous people are being treated unfairly by the public.

    The Free Settlers arrived in Australia in the early 1800's. They came to Australia to start a new life in a new country and most thought Australia was the place to go. Majority of the people thought farming was the way to start. The long term effects included cities, towns and farms developed and then along came the roads and tram lines for cars and trams. The short term effects were that they had slaves and had people working for them.

    Those who moved out became known as squatters , people who settled on land illegally. They settled on whatever land they liked and there was little government to stop them. When the squatters went into the unknown, the difficulties were enormous.     Blackbirding (Intro of Course)
    South Sea Islanders were transported to Australia as a cheap source of labour and they worked in the development and establishment of the new Queensland sugar industry. They came mainly from Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands. The methods of blackbirding varied. Some labourers were willing to be taken to Australia to work, while others were tricked or even forced. Many died during the voyage due to unsanitary conditions, and also in the fields due to the hard manual labour.

    On July 1st 1871, Reverend Samuel MacFarlane from London Missionary Society landed on Darney Island, Queensland. He was a part of the first group of missionaries to arrive in Australia, bringing along with them changes that would affect island life so years to come. The short term effects were many Indigenous found themselves being offered protection from the British settlers. The long term effetcs were have lost sacred sites and land.

    The Constitution was a law where the indigenous were not entitled to specific things. Some of the things that they were not allowed to do was vote, earn pensions and maternity leave was not given to indigenous mothers. The short term effects were that aboriginals were not given rights because their race and the constitution eventually ended in a massacre. The long term effects were that eventually the indigenous were given all the rights that they once were not.

    The commonwealth Franchise ACT 1902 was an Act of the Parliament of Australia which defined who was allowed to vote in Australian federal elections. The Act granted Australian women the right to vote at a national level, and to stand for election to the Parliament. The short term effects were these people were not allowed to vote and they didn’t have any access to maternity leave and employment. The long term event were that now the Aboriginals now have the right to vote and can have houses.

    Before WWI, there were fewer women in paid occupations than there were men.As the number of men who went to the front of line increased, more women were employed.The majority of women worked as nurses often on the front line. Over the war just over 2,500 women served as nurses, 25 of whom died. Women also wanted work as cooks, drivers and interpreters, but those roles were not supported by the government.

    Families at home lived with knowledge that death and injury were highly likely. The death or injury of a loved one at the front was usually communicated by telegram to those waiting at home. Letters and postcards were importnat as this way the soldiers could keep in touch with family. The short term effects of this was that the soldiers could not communicate with his family members. The long term effects were that the soldiers never really got to say goodbye to their loved ones, vice versa.

    World War 1 is often said to have been caused by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and hsi wife Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg, in the Bosnian city of Sarjevo. Thier deaths occured on 28 June 1914 and by August 4 all the great European powers were at war. The assassination was teh trigger to war. The short term effect was Germany declared war on France and Russia. The long term effects were many innocnet lives were lost fighting for their country.
