    Wilmot Proviso
    This bill aimed to outlaw slavery in territories taken from Mexico. The bill passed in the House of Represenitives but was defated in the Senate thus causing a divison in Congress. Although, not a sucess it led to the formation of the Free Soil Party.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    A lot of the people felt like the Compromise of 1850 was too much to handle. To please the North, Carolina would come in as a free state and they would remove the slave trade in Washington. To please the South, Congress wouldn't pass any slave laws for the land won by Mexico and they would make stronger laws about runaway slaves. This tore the union apart.
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    Uncle Tom's Cabin
    Harriet Beecher Stowe was the author of Uncle Tom's Cabi. It was published in Abolitionists Newspaper and bought awarness to the North. It showed how slaves were treated in the South.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    Kansas-Nebraska Act
    The Kansas-Nebraska act created two new territories Kansas and Nebraska. It abolished the Missouri Compromise which upset many people. Northerners were haunted by visions of slavery marching across plains.
  • John Brown

    John Brown
    John Brown was an extreme abolitionist and would do anything to stop slavery. Brown and seven other people went to proslavery neighbors and killed 5 people. The violence spreed and was known as "Bleeding Kansas."
  • Dred Scott V. Sandford

    Dred Scott V. Sandford
    Dred Scott argued that he should be free because he lived in a free state and he argued he should be free. After this case African Americans were not considered citizens and The Misssouri Compromise was unconstitutional.

    Northerners were very pleased with Lincoln ebing electected because it was all of there votes. Southerners were out of hand they left the union, and went crazy in the city. More states seceded and they were known as the Confederate States of America.
  • Attack on Fort Sumter

    Attack on Fort Sumter
    President Lincole told the Confederacy that they were re-stocking and they thought it would be an amazing time to attack. Even though they were low on supplies no one died. This was the start of the civil war.
