    Fort Laramie Treaty
    This Treaty was the main reason why the War broke out. The Government put the Indians on little spots of land (reservations), and said that the land would be their's forever. They also said that on these reservations the Indians would be provided goods, animals and money, But, the government broke that promise when they found gold on the Indians land. The Americans then forced them off of their land. Some went peascully some did not. This then cause a lot of battles.

    Comstock Lode

    This one of the biggest gold finds during this period. Many people from the East came to the West to try thier luck at Gold Mining. This find was so big that thousands of people came. This also encouraged new production of mining technologies.

    The Cattle Kingdom

    Settlers from all over began to build up ranches in the West. Soon large heards of wild cattle were being brought in and driven up to the railroads to be sold as meat. This was a very sucessful business fro a while then Barbed Wire saw the end of the trails and eventually the Cattle Kingdom.

    The Homestead Act
    This act was very important because it helped settle the Wild West. The Homstead Act made it possible for Families to move to the West and have 160 acres for a low price. However, many people were so poor that they didn't even have 12 dollars to spare. Larger companies bought the land and gave it to the people who couldn't afford it. The companies made the farmers pay them rent. Most went into debt.

    The Construction of the Continental Railroad

    There were two main companies that were working on this project, the Untion Pacific and the Central Pacific Railroads. Building a railroad that streches across the country is a very big task and takes alot of people and hard work. The two companies took in imagrants from China and Ireland. Even though it took a while, the Railroads connected the East and West and improved populationof the West. Alos, the Transcontinental Railroad encouraged Cattle Drives and shipment of goods to different places

  • The Chivington Massacre

    The Chivington Massacre
    This battle happened because the Americans broke the Fort Larmaie Treaty. The Americans came in with their fists up ready to fight and didn't care what kind of a flag the Cheyenne put up.Even thought the Indians surrendered Chivington massacred them. This showed the Indians how ruthless Americans were, and even made people in the east very upset. This made all of the Indians want to fight back and proctect their land.
  • Barbed Wire Invented

    Barbed Wire Invented
    This invention ended the Cowboys and Cattle Drives. Barbed Wire made it so that settlers could block off thier property lines and show cowboys were not to drive thier cattle. All of these Property lines covered the cattle drive trails making impossible to drive anything to railroads. If there is no way to drive cattle, then there is no need for Cowboys to drive cattle.

    Custer lead his troops agiants the Indians in Montana. He was not smart about his tactics and basically lead his troops to their deaths.This War happened because of Gold found in the Black Hills. The Government forced the indians off their land which upset them. Custer was defeated and the Indians won. This was a very big battle for the Indians becasue it was one of the few that they won.
