The War of 1812 was the result of Great Britain taking American sailors off of their ships and making them serve in the British Navy a practice known as impressment. -
Treaty of Ghent
The Treaty of Ghent ended the War of 1812. The US and Great Britain retained the territories they had before the war. The US showed it could hold it's own and earned the respect of other nations. -
Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine was issued by President Monroe and told European nations that the US was closed to further colonization.
