One day he was spotted and got shot down by the USSR, when being shot down you had to commit suicide to not get captured but Gary powers was captured alive and it became it worldwide news. It raised conflict between the 2 superpowers but the U.S also captured a soviet spy and thus they both agreed to exchange their spies. -
JFK was the youngest elected president in US History after he defeated Richard Nixon in the presidential election. JFK was a noob to politics as while Nixon had all the background to his belt. It started when the first televised debate in US history was about to occur. JFK looked like a well prepared man who was ready. He was formal and spoke like a great president. Unlike Nixon who looked like he was sweating and pale. This was all televised to millions and millions of Americans. -

Martin Luther King Jr and many others, the orgs of civil rights were at DC. They rallied over 200,000 people and millions of Americans were tuning in from their homes through TV. Everyone was waiting for MLK's speech. "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." - MLK. He gave his speech about how he dreamed of having an equal America. -
On this day in Dallas Texas. JFK was in a motorcade throughout the streets. He was sniped by Harvey Lee Oswald. He was taken to the Hospital where he would die around 12:30pm (CST) -
Following JFK's death. Johnson would become the 36th President. He was going to finish what JFK started especially with the Civil Rights Laws. He would invite MLK and help him create the new laws. After that he proposed many ideas gather into one called "Great Society". He wanted a war on poverty and wanted to improve the lives of Americans. He would help the environment, create better education, create Medicare, Improve jobs and so much more. -
Civil Rights act was signed by President Lyndon Johnson. Martin Luther King Jr was present at the signing and thus was given the pen that signed the act. It would prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, age, sex, or national origin. You could now get jobs, service, etc. without facing such discrimination. -
Malcom X was civil rights activist. He was a powerful figure in the Muslim black community. He would be the opposite of what MLK was by teaching his followers to stand up for yourselves at any costs. He was shot and killed causing reactions over the black community -
Signed once again by Johnson and with MLK present again. He was given the pen . This act outlawed the discriminatory voting practices adopted in many southern states after the Civil War, including literacy tests as a prerequisite to voting. You could now vote freely without being denied and it strengthened the 15th Amendment. -
Thurgood Marshall was the lawyer who helped in the case of Brown v Board. He was successful in ending school segregation, he also won a total of 29 court cases out of 32. Many years later was nominated by Lyndon B. Johnson as the first black supreme justice. -
