from 1806 to 1812 napoleon made territorial changes, annexed lands along the rhine river, and earased the holy roman empire. By destroying the holy roman empire he made the emporer of austria take a lower seat of kingsmenship. -
napoleon losses power and congress of vienna meets
napoleon looses power in 1814 and a year later in 1815 he falls again. in september 1814 the congress of vienna meets for ten months and creates the german confederation. this was weak alliance headed by austria. -

starts political life in prussias junkers class, which was nobles that own land. served as a diplomat in russia in france for prussia.king william I made hime prime minister. soon he would become the highest official of a monarchy, a chancellor. huge success due to his "blood and iron" policcy which brought together german states with prussian rule. he had a good of the idea Realpolitik, or he was the political figure a state depends on. -
Danish-War
prussia and austria started alliance in 1864, took over control of schleswig and holstein from denmark. prussia got schleswig and austria got holstein.this was a short war. -
The Seven Weeks war
prussia defeats austria at in seven weeks. the two nations sign treaty of prague which dissolved the german confederation. also formed the northern german confederation out of it. prussia annexed most northern german states. -
Franco-Prussian War
war between france and prussia, napoleon III is angered because prussia beat austria.Bismarck edits telegraph king william I and the french ammbassador which made it seem that William I insulted the french ambassador.napoleon III declares war on prussia just as bismarck wanted.prussian forces combined with the german states was to much for the french army to handle and france had to surrender with in a few weeks. -
Formation of the German Empire
because of the victory over france the southern german states and the noorth german confederation wanted william I to be their kaiser.son on january 18 1871 they declared the formation of the german empire combinding all the german states but not austria. the goverment was created by bismarck with a 2 house legestlator. the bundesrat and the reichstag. the bundesrat was the upper house and the reichstag was the lower house.
