The Trojan Horse
Odysseus asked to have a wooden horse built. It was made to be a hollow wooden horse so his soldiers would be able to fit in & hide. They then sent it to the Trojans. The Trojans took it as a reward of victory & so they celebrated. That night Odysseus & the rest of his men got out & slaughtered many Trojans. -
Judgment of Paris
Zeus held a banquet to celebrate the marriage of Peleus & Thesis. Eris, goddess of discord, was not invited so she showed with a golden apple and threw it. The apple was considered a prize of beauty. Hera, Athena, & Aphrodite claimed the apple & asked Zeus to choose. Zeus then declared Paris, as Trojan mortal, to choose. Hera & Athena's offers to Paris weren't as good as what Aphrodite had offered him. Aphrodite offered him the most beautiful woman in the world, Helen of Sparta, wife of Menelaus -
Paris visits Menelaus of Sparta
Paris was treated as a royal guest when he visited Menelaus. When Menelaus left Sparta to go on a trip, Paris abducted Helen, Menelaus's wife, & left with some of Menelaus's wealth. -
The War
The judgment of Paris led to the Trojan war. Agamemnon, king of Mycenae & brother if Helen, led a search for Paris for his insult. This hunt lasted up to 10 years.
