This hit single released in 1996, gave a name to the genre from fans connecting the term "Trap" to songs that had their primary topic as drug dealing. Rappers of the genre today, still make references to this song. -
B.M.F (Black Mafia Family)
An infamous drug trafficking organization that began in Detroit and moved to Atlanta. They became involved in the music industry to launder money, but also financed the trap music industry and helped promote many Trap artists. They were active in Atlanta from 2000-2005 and they are still referenced to in today's trap songs. -
"Trap Muzik" by T.I
In the early 2000s, Trap music was shaping up to become an official sub-genre of rap music and T.I's "Trap Muzik" was one of the first albums to define it outright with his album title. The album saw commercial success and made trap music more palatable to a wider audience. -
The first wave of trap artists
After being recognized as a genre, there were a number of hit singles and albums from 2003-2010. The artists (producers included) that were making these tracks were T.I, Gucci Mane, Young Jeezy, Dj holiday, Rick Ross, Lil Jon, Outkast, Goodie Mob, UGK, Shawty Redd, OJ da Juiceman and Zaytoven -
"So Icy"- Gucci Mane ft. Young Jeezy, the dispute between two rising stars in the trap scene
"So Icy" was another trap commercial success, but there was a dispute with the two rappers that were on the track. The ownership was given to Gucci Mane because he was a friend of the producer of the track, Zaytoven. This marks the beginning of bad blood between the two rappers that create lots of diss tracks and fans taking sides. -
Waka Flocka Flame's Debut
His mother is the former manager of Gucci Mane and Waka personally knowing Gucci, Waka was able to enter the industry much faster than others. His debut in 2009 brought along a second wave of Trap artists in the early 2010s -
Migos' Debut
The group "Migos" is comprised of three members, Quavo, Takeoff and Offset. Following Waka's Debut, the Migos were also gaining a fanbase after the release of "Bando" which can found on their second album "YRN". -
Future's debut
While the audience and critics were still digesting the amount of trap music being created by the newly debuted artists, Future was amassing a number of mix tapes and released his debut album "Pluto" after signing to Epic records. -

Gucci Mane is sentenced to three years for a federal firearms charge and this causes the growth of trap music that Gucci Mane was supporting by having new and already signed artists into his studio space called the "Brick Factory" to halt. -
Miley Cyrus' collaboration with MikeWillmadeit
The significance of this event stems from Miley Cyrus being a mainstream pop artist who had turned her interest onto trap music and created a song called "23" with one of the most well known trap producers, MikeWillmadeit. -
