    On the 26th December 1860, the Union moved their men into Front Sumter which was basically a siege and then the Union and Confederate tried to talk it out. Confederate General Pierre G.T. Beauregard and Major Rober Ander open fire on Fort Sumter the morning of April 12, 1861.

    On July 21, 1861, Union leader Thomas Jackson was against the Confederate leader General Thomas Jackson. The Union thought they were going to win the war and end the war but then retreaded till they reach Washington DC.

    In December 1862, General Lee(Conferdate) found Burnsides(Union) in Fredericksburg Virginia and they dug into the crest of the hill. General Lee’s defensive position help them with the win. And this was one of the Unions worst defeats.

    On April 6, 1862, Union General Ulysses S. Grant fought Confederate general Albert Sidney, Johnston in Shiloh, Tennessee. The was the bloodiest encounter of the Civil war, The union won and they got control of the Missippissi river.
  • Second Battle of Bull Run

    Second Battle of Bull Run
    Between August 28th and 30th, the second battle of bull run happened. Confederate General Robert E. Lee was on the offensive side against the Union army under the command of Major General John Pope and General Geroge McClellan which combined their armies. The Union force was forced to withdraw back to Washington.
  • Battle of Antietam

    September 17, 1862, General Lee(Conferdate) was going to move his troops up in Maryland because he thought some win in the north it would be good but he left the plan behind carelessly and General McClellan(Union) found it but was slow to act. The day after the battle Lee ordered his troop to withdraw and because of this relief, McClellan didn’t follow them and there was no clear winner. Also because of this, Lincoln changed the commander of the army of the Potomac to General Ambrose Burnside
  • Battle of Chancellorsville

    Battle of Chancellorsville
    In May 1863, Union leader Joseph Hooker battled confederate leaders Lee and Stonewall Jackson in Chancellorsville, Virginia. Lee and Stonewall were against the outmaneuvered Union Forces. The confederate was so scared they friendly fire against Stonewall and he died several days later. The confederate won this war.
  • Siege of Vicksburg

    Siege of Vicksburg
    On May 19th and 22nd Union General Grant plan 2 quick assaults on the fortress city of Vicksburg and then on the 25th he besieged the city. The Confederate Leader Lieutenant General John Pemberton was outnumbered 2 to 1 and they lasted more than 40 days until the surrender on July 4th. This showed that General Ulysses S. Grant was a brilliant commander.

    On July 1st, 1863 the fighting began between the Union force under the command of General George Meade (who replaced Major General Joseph Hooker 3 days before), against the Confederate force under the command of General Robert E. Lee. This was the turning point of the war, the battle that lasted 3 days ended when the confederate staggered back to Virginia and there were about 50,00 casualties during these three days.
  • Battle of Atlanta

    Battle of Atlanta
    On July 22, 1864, Union leader William T Sherman with 34,000 troops attacked the Confederate force of 40,000 troops under the command of General John Bell Wood in a city outside of Atlanta. This battle had a noteworthy political impact on the re-election of Abraham Lincoln. The Union got the victory with only 3,600 casualties as compared to the Confederate casualties of 8,500 troops. Sherman burned most of the buildings in order to destroy the morale of the southerners.
