    The attempt purchase Cuba was the beginning many things. When the U.S. sent an offer for Cuba and when Spain received it offer the utterly refuse to sell Cuba to America. Spain had said that “We’d rather see Cuba sunk in the ocean.” This interest in Cuba lead to war between Spain and America over Cuba, Guam, Puerto Rico,and the Philippines.

    The first revolution attempt by Cuba failed. They did accomplish to abolish slavery in Cuba. After they had freed the slaves the United States invested millions into the sugarcane industry. With the sugarcane market gaining so much money the United States found even more interest into Cuba.

    José Martí was a Cuban Patriot, he is a national hero. Under his leadership the Cubans were using guerrilla war tactics against American Sugar Mills. The other side of the American public said to side with the rebels since Martí resembles American hero Patrick Henry.

    Yellow press is when a writer takes a story and exaggerates it majorly. Lead by William Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer for “The New York Journal” and “New York World” took stories from James Creelman, known in their writing as “Butcher”. With Weyler already fueling the Americans to intervene, this style of writing with accounts of poisoned wells and children being thrown to sharks the american public starting siding with the rebels.     Weyler was sent to Cuba by Spain because Arsenio Martínez Campos failed against the students. He is a Spanish General sent to bring order to the rebellious island of Cuba. His plan to restore order was by herding the whole rural population and turning them into concentration camps. With these rebels in camps the civilians were present to aid the rebels. Estimated at 300,000 Cubans, disease and hunger killed thousands in the camps. This was another reason for the United States to fight a war with

The ship was to return to New Orleans for martí gras with a flag to celebrate. 260 out of 374 people on the USS Maine were killed. Two days after that, the Spanish fleet tried to escape the American Blockade of the harbor at Santiago.     The United States attacked the Philippines instead of what the Only seven people were killed to take over Puerto Rico because the Spanish naval fleet was destroyed. 3,300 soldiers went to Puerto Rico to take it over it took them 4 days to get there from Guantánamo, Cuba. The Philippine revolutionary Emilio Aguinaldo turned from fighting Spain to resisting America. Later after the Treaty of Paris was signed Puerto Rico was part of the United States.

Now tension with the United States and Spain rising war is bound to happen.
