    This is a revolt led mostly by people of the upper class of Russia and most of these people (the Decemberists) had a military background. The revolt was unsuccessful revolt while trying to get people to be loyal to Nicholas I who had recently died. The reason they wanted people to be loyal to him was so that his brother would become his successor.

    Emancipationg the serfs means that he got rid of serfdom, which to some extent, is the equivalent of slaves. After emancipating the serfs Alexander was given the name "Alexander the Liberator."

    Many heated arguments were arising within the central government of Russia. Throughout the arguements, it became clear how split the group was. They split into two groups, the Bolsheviks (the majority) and the Mensheviks (the minority).

    The Russo - Japanese War
    In this war, the Russians and Japanese were fighting over land. Russia wanted to claim Port Arthur because it can remain open all year round as it is a warm water port. Russia also wanted Korea to be recognized as neutral land to be shared by Russia and Japan. Japan wanted to claim this land and refused to keep it neutral so they decided to go to war. In the end, it was a Japanese victory that was ended with the Treaty of Portsmouth.

    On Bloody Sunday, a large group of unarmed protestors marched onto the land of the Winter Palace led by Father Georgy Gapon. As the protestors marched, they were shot at by the guards of the Palace and many of the demonstrators died.

    Nicholas II saw that it would be best to get out of office. He stepped down from the throne and no more czars came after him.

    Nicholas II and his family are assassinated while they think they are having their picture taken. They are lined up for a picture when guards come in and shoot the whole family.

    Lenin and the Bolsheviks capture the Winter Palace
    In this event, Lenin wanted to put the Bolsheviks even more into the lead so he had his men storm the Winter Palace. The Bolsheviks had this portrayed as a major battle when in reality, there was very little blood shed.

    Russia joined WWI thinnking it would be an easy win. Instead, Russia struggled and lost having very little in the way of supplies.

    Alexander rises to the top of the Provivional Government, set up after Nicholas II abdicated his throne, and assumed the postion as the Prime Minister.

    The Civil War began because many groups were against the Bolsheviks and they wanted to defeat Lenin and his men. They failed to do so and the Bolsheviks won th war.

    After Lenin died, the next most powerful member of the Soviet Union, Stalin, steps up to become leader.
