Henry Parkes decided to make Australia one nation by coming up with the idea of bringing the six different colonies together,called federation. -
Telegraphs
Telegraphs were built to start bringing the colonies together because it was a faster way to communicate. There were also celebrations for the idea of being 'Australian'. -
Six Colonies to Unite
Henry Parkes idea of federation was popular so he said for the six colonies to unite. -
Federation was Popular
Federation was really popular but through out the year, there were massive delays and everyone was ot focused on federation but before the delays, it was the beggining of a great nation. -
National Austrlasian Convention Met
The delays were gone and federation was fowarding onwards in the National Australasian Convention. -
First Referendum
There was a referendum but nothing wsa decided or voted on. -
The Second Referendum
They redraft the constitution that wasn't voted on but the west finally joins the commonwealth. -
The Premiers Meet
They were diciding if the redrafted constitution was good enough for the country. -
Signed Constitution
Queen Victoria Signs the new constitution act that was made Law. -
Federation
Lord Hopetoun declared federation of the six colonies in Centennial Park, Sydney. There was also the first sitting of parliament. Edmund Barton was the first prime minister of Australia.
