Henry Parkes decided to make Australia one nation by coming up with the idea of bringing the six different colonies together,called federation.

Telegraphs were built to start bringing the colonies together because it was a faster way to communicate. There were also celebrations for the idea of being 'Australian'.

Lord Hopetoun declared federation of the six colonies in Centennial Park, Sydney. There was also the first sitting of parliament. Edmund Barton was the first prime minister of Australia.
