Queen Mary died of the influenza on November 17, 1558. During her rule as queen she established that the country's religion was from then on, Catholic. She never had children and Elizabeth bacame her successer.

The treaty of Edinburgh is made between England, France, and Scotland. Commissioners of Queen Elizabeth I ,the Scottish Lords of the Congregation, and the French representatives of King Francis II of France signed the treaty. They signed to formally conclude the Siege of Leith and replace the Auld Alliance with France with a new Anglo-Scottish accord.

Queen Elizabeth signed a treaty a Hampton Court. Based on the terms of the accord, 3000 English troops were summoned to occupy Le Havre and Dieppe. Moreover, Queen Elizabeth promised to provide economic aid to the Huguenots.

Queen Elizabeth declines to accept sovereignty of the Netherlands. This is important because the Netherlands wanted power to be in the hands of the common people. Elizabeth was to selfish and powerful to accept.

Robert Dudley secretly marries Lady Lettice Knollys. She was married to Walter Devereux, Viscount Hereford, Earl of Essex. They are both banished from court.

A marriage treaty is signed between Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Anjou. He was the only one to court her in person. He was 24 and Elizabeth was 46. Despite the age gap, the two soon became very close. They never did get married.

Queen Elizabeth and King James VI of Scottland sign the Treaty of Berwick. They formed the league of amity.For James, the motivation was the chance of succeeding to the English throne upon Elizabeth's death.

Mary Queen of Scotts is convicted of being involved in the Babbington Plot. Many think that Elizabeth only signed the Treaty of Berwick to soften the blow of her next political move for King James. She was going to convict his mother. Mary is executed on Feburary 8, 1587.

London theatres close because of the Bubonic Plague, also known as the Black Death. Among those theatres was the globe theatre. That was Queen Elizabeths favorite theatre, she loved to go see plays there.

The Queen's favorite Robert, Earl of Essex was placed in charge of a large English army. His job was to suppress Irish rebels but Essex signs an unauthorized truce with the Earl of Tyrone. He is then deprived of his titles and arrested.

Robert Devereux, Earl of Essex attempts rebellion which fails.
Robert is then executed on Tower Green. The Queen never gets over his treachery and death. -
Queen Elizabeth dies of blood poisoning. She is then succeeded by James I of England, James VI of Scotland. She is burried next to her sister in Westminster Abbey. The inscription on her grave says "Regno consortes & urna, hic obdormimus Elizabetha et Maria sorores, in spe resurrectionis", which translates to "Consorts in realm and tomb, here we sleep, Elizabeth and Mary, sisters, in hope of resurrection."
