    Marques de Rubi
    He was born in Barcelonia in 1725. Rubi was sent to New Spainto orginize regular armys and militia units. He inspected Missions and Presidios, traveling and estimated total of 7600 miles. After doiung this, he wrote to Spain about some suggestions that he had after aquiring this kind of knowledge.
  • Philipe Nolan

    Philipe Nolan
    Nolan came to Texas in the 1790's. He presented a plan to Baron de Carondelet to travel to Texas and capture mustangs. He made several trips to Texas, and made maps as well as capturing the Horses. Spanish officials became suspicious, and he was arrested in 1800. He returned to Texas and was killed in a fight.
  • Jose Gutierrez de Lara

    Jose Gutierrez de Lara
    The son of Santiago Gutierrez de Lara and Maria Uribe, Gutierrez was born in Revilla, Tamaulipas, Mexico. He married his cousin. During the Mexican war, he and his brother were successful incausing revolution in Nuevo Santander. He left Saltillo for the United states in March 1811, and later went on the Gutierezz -Magee misson
  • Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla

    Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla
    He was known as the Father of Mexican Independence. People say that he "Started the Mexican Revolution by ringing a bell" He made a speech called "Grito de Dolores" (Cry of Dolores) that infulenced the Mexicans to stand up against the spaniards. He was later stripped of his preisthood and shot as a rebel.
  • Agustus Magee

    Agustus Magee
    Agustus Magee was an army official born in Boston, Massachussets. He graduated third in his class at the United States Military Academy. Magee kept down Freebooters of the Nueteral Ground until he was recruited for the Gutierrez-Magee expidition. They crossed the Sabine river. Magee died from serious illness on Febuary 6, 1813.
  • Battle of Medina

    Battle of Medina
    Fought on August 18, 1813, the Battle of Medinia was fought between the Republican forces of the Gutierrez-Magee expidition and the Spanish Revolt army. It was said to be the bloodiest battle ever fought on Texas soil.
  • Jean Lafitte

    Jean Lafitte
    Lafitte sailed a ship under the Mexican flag, He sailed to what is now Galveston island. (Then called Galveztown) Later, he was told by PResident Monroe to leave, becuase the island was part of the Louisiana Purchace, but he wouldn't, and started a colony of about 1000 there.

    State Constitutuion of Coahuila and Texas
    The Mexican state of Coahuila and Texas were combined to the Coahulia and Texas. The constitutuion of 1824 divided the state into three parts. There were many laws about power in the state, given by the Constitution. The leaders were chosen by popular vote. Later, in 1833, Texas was proposed to have it's own statehood.

    Dr. James Long
    (1793-1822) He was the leader of the Long Expidition. In 1793, he was born in Virginia. Long joined the US army to serve as a surgon. Later, the Adams-Onis treaty made people want to rise up and conquer Texas. He was imprisioned, and later shot and killed by a prision gaurd.

    Mexican Federal Constitution
    The Constitution was slightly based on the American Constitutuion, although it has been said that it more resembles the Spanish Constitution. The document stated things about religion, elected leaders, houses of congress, and a supreme court.

    After the fall of Iturbide, Mexico used a federal law simular to the United States. It was a national colonization law passed on August 18, 1824. This and one other document (The State Law of Coahula and Texas) were the main part of all Texan colonial documents.
  • Merger of Coahuila and Texas

    Merger of Coahuila and Texas
    The national colonizaation laws of 1824 decided how Texas would be populated. It stated that people who wanted to move to Texas would have to contact the legislative of a specific state, and not the actual government. It also seemed to try to get people to move into Texas and populate it.
