    The Birth of Muhammad
    Muhammad was born in Mecca, Arabia soon after his father's death. Not long after his birth, his mother and grandfather both died. Although, due to Arab custom he was unable to inherit anything, leaving Muhammad very poor during he early years of his life.

    Muhammad Hears a Voice
    While Muhammad was meditating he heard a voice call out to him. It said, "You are the messenger of God." At first Muhammad thought he might have been crazy, but later decided that it was the archangel Gabriel speaking to him. He then began to tell his family and friends what he had heard.

    Muhammad Begins to Preach Publicly
    At first Muhammad only told his close family and friends about Gabriel's voice, but beginning in 612 he spoke publcly about the conversations. This was the start of Muhammad's preaching, and the beginning of the Islam religion (although it was not a religion at that time) becoming public.

    Fight Against Muhammad
    During 616 a boycott was placed on the clan of Hashim, because Muhammad's Uncle was the head of the clan. The boycott was done to stop the clan from protecting Muhammad, but until the death of Muhammad's uncle the Hashim clan felt it dishonorable to abadon him.

    The Hijra
    This ia also called "the immigration". After his uncle death, a new head of the Hashim clan was chosen, leaving Muhammad unable to preach in the Mecca area. He then moved to the area of Medina where a few of his followers had fled earlier, and continued to preach there.

    By this time the Islam religion had become rooted in society. Many of the customs and practices had been rooted in culture by 630, and they still exist today. The religion's biblical text is the Koran, which focuses on god's goodness and power.

    Muhammad was poisoned soon after his conquest of the Jewish settlement of Khaibar. A Jewsih woman prepared the meal for Muhammad and his friends, and soon became ill. She was later brought to Muhammad and asked if she should be killed, but he replied 'no'. Several days later Muhammad died

    Muhammad and Khadija Marriage
    Khadija, a rather wealthy woman, asked Muhammad is he would manage her trading supplies. After his sucessful journey she offered her hand in marraige, Muhammad agreed. Together they had four daughters and a few sons that died in infancy.
