  • Fr James Dixon

    Fr James Dixon was allowed to celebrate mass in Australia for the first time but this didn't last long. It only lasted for ten months. Once again Catholics prayed by themselves to continue there faith.
  • Fr Jeremiah O'Flynn

    Fr Jeremiah O'Flynn came to Australia to celebrate mass without permission. He was sent back to England after eighteen months but left the blessed sacraments in a Sydney Catholic family home.
  • Fr John Therry and Fr Philip Conolly

    In 1820 Fr John Therry and Fr Philip Conolly were officially announced as the first priest in Australia. Fr John Therry found the perfect place to put the first Catholic Church in Australia.
  • St Mary Cathedral

    Fr Therry blessed the foundation of the first Catholic church in Australia. then he named it St Mary Cathedral.
  • John Bede Polding

    In 1835 John Bede Polding came to Australia. He organised the areas into diocese to help the priest respond to their Catholic community needs faster. Due to his great work and idea, he became Archbishop of Sydney.
  • Caroline Chisholm

    Caroline Chisholm helped women prisoners and immigrants. She tired her hardest to improve women's lifestyles.
  • Mary Mackillop

    Mary Mackillop helped poor children. She started local schools with a man called Fr Julian Tenison Woods. She also started a Catholic group called 'The Sisters of St Joseph'.
